The Milwaukee men's and women's swimming and diving teams participated in the first day of the 2024 Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships, held in Indianapolis. The women's team achieved a second-place finish in the 800 free relay. Janelle Schulz, Erika Thomas, Grace Hudson, and Audrey Dixon completed the race with a time of 7:23.38, narrowly missing the Milwaukee record.
Another notable performance came from Carly Plate, Hanna Degrace, Brielle Laube, and Noelle Bryan in the 200 medley relay. They finished fourth with a time of 1:43.66, just behind Cleveland State's third-place team.
In diving events, Julie Rebek improved her position from fifth to fourth in the finals of the women's 3-meter dive with a score of 270.25. Kristina Wittmann secured seventh place with a score of 227.55 after preliminaries. Therese Missiaen moved up from eleventh to win the consolation final with a score of 225.65.
For the men's events, Jared Bruce, Andrew Jones, Nik Wheeler, and Ben Lorenz nearly set a new program record in the 200 medley relay but settled for fourth place with a time of 1:29.78.
The men's team also placed fifth in the 800 free relay event as Jay Jensen, Charlie House, Jackson Ahrens, and Zach McClellan recorded a time of 6:38.88.
After day one, Milwaukee's women are third overall with 100 points behind IUPUI (105) and Oakland (116). The men are tied for fourth place with Youngstown State at 58 points each while Oakland leads followed by IUPUI and Cleveland State.
The Championships will continue tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m., featuring preliminary heats and concluding later in the day with final heats for various events including men's diving and several swimming categories.
