Milwaukee Panthers swimmers earn Horizon League all-academic honors

The Milwaukee Panthers' swimming and diving teams have had seven athletes recognized for their academic achievements by the Horizon League. The league office announced the honorees, which include both men's and women's team members.

For the women's team, Mara Freeman, Julie Rebek, and Therese Missiaen were named to the 2024 Valeo Women's #HLSD All-Academic Team. Lucy Borlase received an Honorable Mention. On the men's side, Sam Hauke, Adam St. John, and Ben Lorenz earned spots on the 2024 Valeo Men's #HLSD All-Academic Team.

Julie Rebek stands out as a repeat member of this prestigious group. She was previously honored with first-team recognition in 2023 and was also part of the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District Team alongside teammates Lorenz and Hauke.

Rebek is in her senior year majoring in Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies (JAMS) with a GPA of 3.884. Her performance includes eleven first-place finishes during the season and scoring points for her team in diving events at the Horizon League Championships.

Therese Missiaen is another senior athlete majoring in Kinesiology with a GPA of 3.958. She achieved podium finishes six times this season and won the consolation final of the 3-meter dive at the conference championship meet.

Sophomore Mara Freeman has excelled academically with a perfect GPA of 4.000 while majoring in marketing. She secured five individual wins during the season and medaled in three events at the Horizon League Championship meet.

Lucy Borlase, who received an Honorable Mention, is a senior photography major holding a GPA of 3.834. Her season highlights include multiple top-five finishes.

On the men's team, Sam Hauke is pursuing Biomedical Engineering with a GPA of 3.954 in his senior year. He has been recognized with Faculty Athletic Representative Awards for two consecutive years.

Junior Ben Lorenz majors in physics with a GPA of 3.816. He made it to eight podiums this season and tied his program's record for the 50 Free event at the conference championship meet with a time of 20.12 seconds.

Adam St. John is studying actuarial science as he completes his senior year with a GPA of 3.833. He recorded nine wins throughout this season and contributed to Milwaukee's score in diving events at the Horizon League Championships.

The Horizon League honors student-athletes who maintain high academic standards while competing athletically through its seasonal Academic All-League Teams across its sports offerings.
