The Milwaukee women's soccer team commenced their Horizon League campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over Northern Kentucky at Scudamore Field. The Panthers, now holding a record of 2-6-1 overall and 1-0 in the league, outperformed the Norse from the start. Their offense recorded significant advantages in shots (24-9), shots on goal (7-3), corners (13-2), and maintained possession for 60% of the match.
Second-half goals by Lainey Higgins and Molly O'Regan secured the win, supported by Parker Donahugh's three-save shutout. Head coach Kevin Boyd expressed satisfaction with the team's performance: "We are very happy about starting out the conference right and getting the win on the road," he said. Boyd highlighted Higgins' goal as pivotal, noting her ability to overcome tight marking: "Lainey came to our rescue with the first one."
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Milwaukee was unable to break through until after halftime. Boyd acknowledged this, saying, "In the first half... we’ve got to do a little bit better than that in terms of quality when we get our chances." However, he was pleased with their second-half execution: "Two goals in the second half and the shutout – we're very happy with that."
The Panthers' offensive pressure persisted throughout, nearly adding another goal late in the game. Ashlyn Skinner-Barrett's attempt narrowly missed after hitting both post and goalkeeper.
Donahugh's efforts ensured her first shutout of the season. Offensive contributions were led by Jenni Andjelic and Lola Wojcik, each attempting four shots.
Milwaukee will continue their road trip against Wright State on Sunday at noon CT.
