Raul Medina and Alan Lopez from the Milwaukee men's soccer team have been named to the Valeo Horizon League All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office. This marks Medina's second time receiving this honor, while it is a first for Lopez.
Medina was previously recognized in 2022 as an Honorable Mention on the Horizon League All-Academic Team. He has also been part of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team twice and consistently appeared on both the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List during his eligibility. A full-time starter throughout his five-year career and now a two-year team captain, Medina led his team in scoring in 2023. Despite playing only 12 games this season due to injury, he remains at the top of the Horizon League with seven assists.
Lopez played in 12 games this season, contributing five points with two goals and one assist, including a game-winning goal against Drake. In academics, he has been distinguished as the 2022 College Division recipient of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Team and United Soccer Coaches Scholar Player of the Year. An accounting major, Lopez participated in ten games last year, accumulating four points from two goals.
The Horizon League acknowledges student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams across its 19 championship sports. Eligibility requires a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale, completion of one year at their institution with earned credits totaling either 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours, and participation in half of their team's contests. Student-athletes who receive at least 25% of votes but do not make it onto the All-Academic team are awarded Honorable Mentions.
