Daiki Kumakawa's goal in the 60th minute helped Milwaukee men's soccer team secure a 1-1 draw against Green Bay at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The Panthers, now on a three-game unbeaten streak, managed to tie the game after Green Bay had taken the lead with a goal from their seventh corner kick.
Milwaukee head coach Kris Kelderman acknowledged the difficulty of facing Green Bay, especially on the road, and expressed satisfaction with securing the third seed in the Horizon League standings. "It's always a hard game with Green Bay," he said. "We accept that third seed, we are excited, and look forward to playing a home game on Sunday."
The match saw Milwaukee taking an early aggressive stance with five of the first seven shots, including attempts by Alejandro Martinez and Jack Wagner. Despite these efforts, it was Green Bay who scored first at 29:50 minutes into the match.
Goalkeeper Daniel Ibarra played a crucial role for Milwaukee, making several key saves including one on a free kick late in the first half. Kelderman praised his team's resilience after conceding the opening goal. "Kudos to our guys to keep fighting and get that goal back," he noted.
David Cox initiated the play leading to Kumakawa's equalizer by winning possession before Jack Bowden set up Kumakawa's decisive shot. In the later stages of the match, Bienvenu Djunga nearly scored a winner but his attempt hit the post.
Ibarra's performance included four total saves, with one critical stop just seconds before full-time to maintain the draw. The home team held statistical advantages in shots (19-7), shots on target (5-3), and corner kicks (14-3), as well as 65 percent ball possession.
Milwaukee will host Purdue Fort Wayne in their upcoming Horizon League Tournament matchup this Sunday at Engelmann Stadium.
