The Milwaukee women's cross country team participated in the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State on Saturday morning. The Panthers secured sixth place out of seven teams in the Division I category, accumulating 145 points.
"The thick fog lifted right before the women's race and the heat really affected the field," said head coach Andrew Basler. "Only one woman finishing in under 21 minutes shows how much of a factor it was for everyone running."
Anelise Egge led Milwaukee through challenging weather conditions, finishing 10th with a time of 21:34.1, continuing her strong performance this season. "Anelise put herself in the mix right from the start and ran a great effort," Basler added.
Rachel Helm followed as the next finisher for Milwaukee, securing 41st place with a time of 23:22.0. Joely Overstreet completed the team's top three runners, finishing 48th with a time of 23:33.0.
"Our two through five runners all finished within 27 seconds of each other I think as they work to cut that down as the year goes on we'll see that team score go way down," commented assistant coach Jake Reilly.
Milwaukee's next competition is scheduled for Friday, October 4 at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational at 10:30 a.m. in South Bend, Indiana. Following that event, they will compete at Wisconsin Lutheran's Warrior Invitational on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 a.m.
