Milwaukee's five-game winning streak came to an end on Thursday evening when they faced Oakland at the O'rena. The Panthers struggled against a strong first-half performance by the Golden Grizzlies, who capitalized on an 18-3 run that set the tone for the game.
Head coach Bart Lundy commented on the loss, stating, "We have to play cleaner, and better, and tougher – especially on the road in a tough environment." He acknowledged Oakland's performance, saying, "But don't take anything away from Oakland – they made the plays they needed to make and had us on our heels all night."
The Panthers managed to reduce a 16-point deficit to single digits but could not fully recover. Jamichael Stillwell and Themus Fulks each scored 14 points for Milwaukee. Stillwell's streak of double-doubles ended as he fouled out with nine rebounds. Fulks added five rebounds to his contribution.
Lundy emphasized the importance of reflecting on this defeat before their next game: "I want them to think very long and hard about it and to be upset and to go in and play upset at Detroit Saturday."
For Oakland, Allen David Mukeba led with 15 points and nine rebounds. Four players from Oakland scored in double figures. Milwaukee's slow start was evident as they connected only 35 percent of their field goals in the first half while committing eight turnovers.
"They got going early and we struggled to score," Lundy said. He noted several factors contributing to their struggles, including missed opportunities for fast breaks.
Oakland maintained control after halftime, leading to a final score of 65-49. Foul trouble for key players like Stillwell and Kentrell Pullian further complicated Milwaukee's efforts.
The Panthers shot 37 percent from the floor compared to Oakland's 42.3 percent. They also attempted significantly fewer free throws than their opponents.
Milwaukee will remain in Michigan for their next game against Detroit Mercy scheduled for Saturday at noon CT.
