Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is set to host two Kindergarten Enrollment Fairs in February 2025, offering families an opportunity to explore various educational programs available for young children. The fairs will provide information on a range of MPS offerings, including arts, bilingual programs, language immersion, Montessori, International Baccalaureate (IB), and STEM programs.
More than 100 schools within the district that offer kindergarten for ages 3, 4, and 5 will participate. School staff will be present to discuss program details, answer questions, and assist families in selecting suitable options for their children. Interpreters will be available to facilitate communication. Families are encouraged to enroll between February 1 and March 17, 2025, to increase their chances of securing a spot at their preferred school.
The events aim to support families in exploring school options and completing enrollment processes. Activities for children will be organized by Milwaukee Recreation and other partners. These include games, face painting, crafts, and a story walk. Additionally, families can register for door prizes such as movie tickets and museum passes. The Milwaukee Health Department will also offer immunizations at the fairs.
MPS provides free breakfast and lunch for all students. Many schools offer before- and after-school care services to accommodate working parents. Bus transportation information is available from each school. Some MPS schools require uniforms.
For those interested in Montessori education specifically, MPS will hold "A Morning of Montessori" open house on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at MacDowell Montessori School located at 6415 W. Mount Vernon Ave., Milwaukee.
The age requirements for kindergarten enrollment are as follows: children must turn three by September 1 for limited half-day or full-day programs; four-year-olds must turn four by September 1 for full-day programs; five-year-olds must turn five by September 1 for full-day programs.
Families seeking more information about enrollment or the Enrollment Fair can contact MPS at 414-475-8159.
