Cost of college went up for all students at Milwaukee Area Technical College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.2 percent for 2018-19 at Milwaukee Area Technical College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Wisconsin residents paid $4,589 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $98 more than the $4,491 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 43.9 percent more than residents this year, or $6,602. Their price tag grew 6.9 percent from $6,174 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Wisconsin residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 83 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 938 students received grants or scholarships totaling $6 million and 469 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.7 million.

Including all undergraduates (15,278), 6,923 students used grants or scholarships totaling $37 million, and 5,224 students took out $20.6 million in federal student loans.
