Sherman Park residents recently met with a panel of local leaders and law enforcement to address the problem of reckless driving in their neighborhoods, according to a report from WTMJ-TV Milwaukee.

Additionally, the article states that residents of the Sherman Park neighborhood have complained about the effects of irresponsible driving on their streets for years.

“Since the beginning of this year we’ve been in three accidents in which all three cars have been totaled," Brenna Gonderman, a resident and victim of reckless driving said. "In every single one of the accidents, someone was doing something that was completely outside the bounds of normal driving.”

According to data provided by the Milwaukee Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit, the Milwaukee Police Department has issued over 1,100 tickets to drivers this month alone, including over 650 for speeding.

The panel consisted of law enforcement officers, judges and residents who discussed the issues, what is being done about them and potential remedies for the situation.

The panelists agreed that the greatest impact would come from raising awareness of the issue and advocating for change in the State Capitol.
