In the year 2019, Milwaukee was selected to host the 2020 Democratic National Convention over Miami and Houston. This time they are enthusiastic and want to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention as well.
"I have formally responded to the Democratic National Committee's invitation to compete to host its 2024 national convention. Milwaukee was ready to put on a great event for the 2020 Demoratic National Convention, and, we are set to do it again," tweeted Mayor Tom Barrett.
The Democratic Party is currently considering at least 20 cities to host the 2024 convention. The 2020 DNC that was scheduled to be held in Milwaukee was affected by COVID and thus canceled.
If Milwaukee is selected, it will be the first time in over a century that the DNC is held in a Midwest city other than Chicago. It was estimated that the 2020 convention would have had an impact of $200 million on the state of Wisconsin.
Tom Barrett was recently nominated as the U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg, but he said that has no effect on the effort to have the DNC in Milwaukee.
