Rep. Kalan Haywood (D-Milwaukee) has been recognized as the Wisconsin Boys and Girls Club 2021 Alumni of the Year and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Haywood, who was elected in 2018 at age 19, was honored as a Boys & Girls Club alumni and joins the ranks of actors, musicians, athletes, and politicians who have received similar awards throughout the country, according to the BGCA Hall of Fame.
“It is an honor to be recognized as the 2021 Alumni of the Year and to become the second-ever inductee into the Wisconsin Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame. The club helped teach me the importance of serving a purpose bigger than myself. Thank you @BGCWis,” Haywood said in a tweet.
The Boys and Girls Club of Wisconsin has 159 sites across the state, which serve 144,800 children and is responsible for providing two million free meals every year, according to BGC Wisconsin.
In addition to his work as a state representative for District 16, Haywood currently serves on the Housing and Real Estate Committee, the Small Business Development Committee, and the Tourism Committee, according to Ballotpedia.
