The City of Milwaukee is conducting a survey about its new Climate Equity Action Plan and Mayor Tom Barrett is urging residents to participate in the project.
Citing a survey by WalletHub, a personal finance website, U.S. News and World Report noted that Wisconsin ranked No. 8 among the nation’s most energy efficient states, up from No. 11 in 2019, according to the survey.
“Now is the time to invest in solutions to combat climate change and create economic opportunity,” Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said in a post on Twitter. “Help build Milwaukee’s new Climate and Equity Action Plan by providing your input through surveys, a discussion board and idea wall at engagemke.com/climate-and-equity-plan before the Nov. 15 deadline.”
As part of the survey, the city said on its website that residents can share their ideas on how the climate proposal could enhance the community and the health of its residents. The website also solicited input on the “10 Big Ideas,” which includes residential energy efficiency, commercial building energy benchmarking, reduce vehicle miles, nature in the city, green jobs accelerator, resilience ambassadors, food waste reduction, net zero electric grid, electric vehicles and new net zero energy homes.
The city’s website also pointed out that Milwaukee could be threatened by climate change with increased flooding and extreme weather.
Moreover, the website pointed out that the plant risks “catastrophic” damage unless greenhouse gas emissions are reduced. According to the website, greenhouse gas emissions would need to be reduced by 50% over the next eight years and by 100% by 2050 to ease the potential damage.
The city noted on its website that it hopes to address the challenges presented by climate change. It said on its website that it hopes to address climate change while continuing to create green jobs and reduce economic and racial inequities.
