U.S. Senators Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) have sent a letter to President Trump recommending five candidates for the vacancy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The recommendations are part of their bipartisan Wisconsin Federal Nominating Commission, which is responsible for providing suggestions for nominations to federal judicial positions and U.S. Attorneys during the 119th Congress.

Senator Johnson expressed appreciation for the work of those involved in the commission, stating, “I want to thank those on the Commission for the considerable time and effort they volunteer to ensure the Wisconsin federal courts and chambers do not become attractive forum shopping venues for partisan activists seeking a judicial bench open to constitutional overreach. I look forward to the President nominating one of these candidates to the Seventh Circuit.”

The full text of their letter is available online.

Senator Johnson has a history of electoral success in Wisconsin, having won general elections against Mandela Barnes in 2022 with 50.4% of the vote, Russ Feingold in 2016 with 50.2%, and again against Feingold in 2010 with 51.9%.
