The Door County Candle Company has surpassed its objective of selling 10 candles to benefit a Ukrainian nonprofit by fulfilling thousands of orders.
Company owner Christiana Tripani said she was overwhelmed with the outpour of support.
"People, even if they’re not Ukrainian or have ties to Ukraine, people are just really good,” Tripani said. “There's a lot of good people and people just want to help. I’m happy we could provide a way that we could help and donate to a reputable, really good organization."
Tripani added that she is extremely proud of her heritage and concerned about the country.
“Growing up as a Ukrainian American, I was raised with Ukrainian being my first language, which has allowed me to keep connected to friends and family who live there today,” she states on the company website. “As a Ukrainian American, what’s happening in Ukraine is hitting me, and many others, deeply to my core. We strongly condemn Russia’s shameful and unprovoked war. We are heartbroken, concerned and scared for all of those in Ukraine.”
FOX 6 Now reported that her original goal has transitioned to 4,000 over two days with proceeds heading to Razom, a Ukrainian nonprofit, to supply the Ukrainian army with medical supplies, according to its website.
Tripani is asking customers for patience for their candles due to high demand, the homemade craftsmanship and shipping can take up to two weeks with candles still available at doorcountycandle.com, according to the news station.
