In the end, Jrue Holiday taking the floor for the Milwaukee Bucks April 10 game against the Cleveland Cavaliers was like money in the bank.
Though he played just seven seconds, Yahoo reports that Holiday’s appearance alone was enough to account for his 67th game of the season, triggering a $225,000 bonus clause in his contract for games played during the regular season.
"Best day of work ever, Jrue Holiday puts on his uniform just to commit a foul and leave, is now ~$225,000 richer because he met the games played threshold in his contract to trigger the bonus," Rob Perez tweeted.
Now the real season starts for the NBA defending champions, who as the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference will face the Chicago Bulls in the first-round of the NBA playoffs.
In their regular-season ending 133-115 lost to the Cleveland, where they also rested star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks fell behind by as many as 40 points, though clearly their minds were somewhere else.
The Bucks host the Bulls in Game 1 on Sunday. Milwaukee has defeated Chicago in all four of their matchups this season and the Bulls are just 3-7 over their last 10 games. The series will be the first postseason matchup between the Central Division foes since the 2015 “tackling Mike Dunleavy” series won by the Bulls 4-2.
“It’s great to have 82 games in the bank, and we have pretty good health," Coach Mike Budenholzer told ESPN. "The guys know we have a special group and we have a special opportunity.”
In the Cleveland game, with the Cavs in desperate need of a win to keep their season alive, veteran Kevin Love swished eight 3-pointers, finishing with 32 points in just 15 minutes.
