Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson did all he could to bring voters to the polls in large numbers for the Aug. 9 primaries.
“Tomorrow, Tuesday August 9, is primary election day in Milwaukee,” Johnson tweeted in the hours before voting booths opened. “Are you ready to vote?”
Nominees for state governor and the U.S. Senate were on the ballot Tuesday, as was a District 2 seat that once belonged to Johnson. Voters also had their say about candidates for Milwaukee county sheriff and Clerk of circuit court.
In the race for governor, GOP candidates included former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, business co-owner Tim Michels, State Rep. Timothy Ramthun and business owner Adam Fischer, with the winner earning the right to face democratic incumbent Tony Evers in the General Election. The candidate chosen from the US Senate race will be who challenges Johnson in the general election.
As for Johnson’s old District 2 seat, Jerel Ballard, Mark Chambers Jr. and Keyellia “Kiki” Morries were all vying for the post. In addition, a seat in District 3 also opened up after Mayor Johnson appointed Nik Kovac, but Rep. Jonathan Brostoff is the only candidate and so he will be on the November ballot.
