On Nov. 8, MMAC brought together industry and education representatives to kick off the 2022-23 Be the Spark program.
Be the Spark was designed as a career awareness and exposure opportunity for Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) students through the support of MMAC's small business board of directors. From 2014 to 2020, the program reached over 15,000 students through business tours in partnership with 125-plus businesses.
Be the Spark was redesigned in 2021 in collaboration with MPS as a series of experiences supporting 10th to 12th grade students with a goal of preparedness for career-based learning experiences. Be the Spark was designed to increase exposure to career opportunities that exist within high-quality, high-demand industries in Southeast Wisconsin and grow the pipeline of talent to fill the large number of forecasted jobs.
Milwaukee Region businesses are prepared to offer high-impact career experiences that will provide a real-world context for classroom learning. Students who have access to high-quality experiences as part of career exploration are likelier to complete high school and succeed in post-secondary and career pathways.
Kickoff event participants shared expertise and recommendations for providing the highest value experience for students and the most effective methods for partnership between education and industry.
Through these partnerships between education and industry, we’ll inspire current students, along with their parents, guardians and others who influence students' career paths to explore and experience the broad spectrum of rewarding, high-demand, high-quality career opportunities with firms throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.
Thank you to everyone who participated! We’re excited to get started.
