Scarlett Johnson, a member of Moms for Liberty Wisconsin, expressed her concerns about the recent decision made by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors to approve Milwaukee County as a sanctuary for "transgender" and "nonbinary" individuals. The vote took place last week and has sparked controversy among different groups.
According to Johnson, the resolution passed by the board does not include any language that requires parental consent for "sex change drugs and surgeries" for transgender children and teens. She compared this decision to the one made by Dane County three months ago, which also established sanctuary status for transgender individuals. Dane County's resolution prioritizes supporting "transgender" and "nonbinary" individuals, especially youth, and recommends law enforcement to place gender-affirming care at the lowest priority when enforcing prohibitions.
During the meeting, 12 members of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors voted in favor of the resolution, while 4 supervisors voted against it. Three individuals were not present during the meeting. The resolution specifically urges the Milwaukee County Sheriff to prioritize the lowest enforcement of any potential laws that may impose penalties on individuals receiving or involved in gender-affirming care.
Johnson criticized the resolution for urging the Milwaukee Sheriff to ignore the law and make enforcement of potential future laws that impose punishments for gender-affirming care their lowest priority. She shared her concerns on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
