WASHINGTON– U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) has taken the initiative to lead a group of nine Senate GOP colleagues in urging Senate Republican Conference Chair John Barrasso, M.D. (R-Wyo.) to convene a meeting of the Conference. The purpose of the meeting, as outlined in a letter sent on Thursday, is to develop a mission statement, establish goals for the Conference, and create a process for electing a new Senate Republican Leader.

The letter, signed by Senators Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kan.), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.), emphasized the importance of setting clear objectives for the Conference and ensuring a smooth transition in leadership. The group requested that the Conference take place during the week of March 18, 2024.

In their joint communication to Senator Barrasso, the senators stated, "We write to request that you call a meeting of the Conference to develop a mission statement and goals for the Conference, and a process to elect a new Senate Republican Leader. We request this Conference occur during the week of March 18, 2024."

The initiative led by Sen. Johnson and supported by his colleagues highlights a proactive approach to organizational planning within the Senate Republican Conference, signaling a commitment to clarity and transparency in the leadership transition process.
