College Sports Communicators announced its 2023-24 Academic All-District selections for cross country and track & field, recognizing eight Panthers for their academic achievements.
The honorees include Natalie Block, Tony Bretall, Caleb Henry, Cailin Kinas, Jack Misky, Dominique Thomas, Kortnie Volk, and Tabitha Wechlo.
Block, a biomedical sciences major with a 3.560 GPA, had a notable season in both indoor and outdoor track. She earned Alfreeda Goff Indoor and Outdoor Women's Athlete of the Year honors and was named outstanding performer at both Horizon League Championships. Additionally, she was selected for the Horizon League All-Academic Team for both seasons.
Bretall, a music education major with a 3.824 GPA, has previously earned seven All-Academic Team honors from the Horizon League. This year he secured second place in the heptathlon during the Horizon League Indoors Championships and in the decathlon at the outdoor championships.
Henry, who majors in healthcare administration with a 3.668 GPA, also received two Horizon League All-Academic Team selections this year. He achieved nine victories this season including six during the outdoor season and won titles in the 4x400m relay at both indoor and outdoor championships along with an individual victory in the 400m.
Kinas, a nutrition major maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA, excelled in cross country before transitioning to track events. She recorded three top-10 finishes during fall and set program records in steeplechase while being part of the distance medley relay championship team. She was also named to Horizon All-Academic Teams for both seasons.
Misky holds a 3.816 GPA as a kinesiology major and has been recognized on Horizon League All-Academic teams for two consecutive years. He placed third in both heptathlon and decathlon at this year's league championships.
Thomas is a nursing major with a 3.825 GPA who won her first Horizon League Championship by securing the title in the 60m dash during indoor season. She posted program-best times in both 200m dash (24.27) and second-best time in 60m dash (7.41). She was also an All-Academic Team member for indoor and outdoor seasons.
Volk boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA as a kinesiology major and has been awarded this year's Horizon League post-graduate scholarship. She finished second in heptathlon and fourth in pentathlon while being part of distance medley relay championship team at indoor meet; she was also named to Horizon League All-Academic Teams for both seasons.
Wechlo is an education major with a 3.861 GPA who qualified for NCAA West Preliminaries after winning shot put at Horizon League Championship during outdoor season; she was runner-up earlier during indoor championships while being on Horizon All-Academic Teams for both seasons.
