On Thursday, U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) released an updated timeline detailing law enforcement's awareness of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, PA on July 13, 2024.

Senator Johnson had previously introduced an earlier version of this timeline into the hearing record on July 30, 2024, during a joint Senate committee hearing before members of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Committee on the Judiciary.

At that hearing, Senator Johnson stated, “we will continue to update this timeline as more information becomes public. This is the way you do an investigation. We need to find out literally second by second what happened so the American public understands the truth.”

The updated timeline incorporates information from law enforcement radio communications, publicly released body camera footage from local law enforcement, and media reports. It details how law enforcement tracked Crooks over the 90 minutes preceding the first shots being fired and their immediate response to the shooting.

The new and updated information is highlighted in the timeline available for viewing online.

Following the assassination attempt on former President Trump, Senator Johnson released preliminary findings regarding security failures at the July 13 rally. The preliminary findings from July 21, 2024, and July 23, 2024 can also be accessed online.
