The Milwaukee men's cross country team participated in the Phoenix Open hosted by Green Bay on Friday afternoon, finishing fifth out of nine teams with a score of 104 points. Michigan Tech secured first place with a score of 44 points.

"The men's team ran extremely well as a unit," head coach Andrew Basler commented. "I'd say it's the best they've looked as a group since the Horizon League runner-up team in 2018."

Cullen Boyle led Milwaukee by finishing in 10th place with a time of 25:13.9. Carter Eckhoff closely followed, securing 11th place with an 8k personal-best time of 25:17.5.

"Cullen, Carter, and Sam Schreiber are a strong top three for us and will only continue to get stronger as the year goes on," Basler added.

Sam Schreiber, who set his personal best in the 6k last week, achieved an 8k best this week by finishing in 13th place with a time of 25:22.9.

Lucas Picco finished in 35th place with a time of 26:06.0. Nate Griepentrog rounded out the scoring for the Panthers, achieving his personal best of 26:16.0 to take 43rd place.

"It was the first 8k for the freshmen we brought in and I thought the group as a whole had a really good mindset," assistant coach Jake Reilly said. "They're willing to put themselves out there and be a little adventurous with their racing."

Aiden Sosnowski (26:27.9), Trey Meier (26:44.5), and Harper Fahey (27:10.1) all finished with their personal bests in the 8k.

The Panthers will compete again on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for Indiana State's John McNichols Invitational.
