Gov. Tony Evers visited the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) on Tuesday morning, touring Sandburg Hall and the Klotsche Center with Chancellor Mark Mone. During his visit, Evers spoke with UWM students and employees.
The governor's visit was part of a broader tour that also included stops at UW-Green Bay and UW-Stevens Point. The purpose of these visits was to promote his proposal for over $800 million in state funding for the Universities of Wisconsin, which would be the largest biennial budget proposal in state history. According to Evers, this investment aims to prevent further cuts to university staff, faculty, campuses, and programs.
At Sandburg Hall, Gov. Evers learned about various activities and facilities designed to make students feel welcome. This fall, University Housing is at full capacity, with Sandburg alone accommodating more than 2,700 students.
During his time at the Klotsche Center, Evers interacted with more staff and students who demonstrated the activities available through the University Recreation program. He also toured Klotsche’s workout facilities and viewed the new Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin (OHOW) Center—a 16,000-square-foot expansion that serves as home to UWM’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
