On Thursday, December 19, the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Board of Directors approved Brian D. Litzsey as the new senior director of Milwaukee Recreation. Litzsey, who currently serves as the department's manager of operations, will assume his new role on January 20, 2025. He will replace Lynn A. Greb, who is retiring after a 36-year tenure with the department.
Litzsey has been part of Milwaukee Recreation since 2002 and has held various positions within the organization. He started as an assistant recreation supervisor for the Community Learning Centers (CLCs) program and later became a recreation supervisor for CLC programming. In 2008, he was promoted to after-school coordinator, managing over 80 school-based before- and after-school programs. By 2015, Litzsey advanced to his current position as manager of operations/assistant director. In this role, he has overseen budgeting, strategic planning, policy compliance, marketing, technology services, and operations for the department.
"I am confident that Brian will excel in his new role as director of Milwaukee Recreation," said Greb. "I know he has the full support of our team as he moves forward in this important leadership position. I am leaving the department in extremely capable hands."
Litzsey holds a bachelor's degree from Illinois State University in Recreation/Park Administration - Program Management and earned a master's degree in Physical Education from Chicago State University along with an MBA from Concordia University Wisconsin.
In addition to Litzsey's appointment, Andrew Rossa was approved by the MPS Board of Directors as Milwaukee Recreation's new manager of operations. Rossa joined the department in 2008 and is currently serving as coordinator of playgrounds and community centers programming.
