U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde said the rising crime rates found in the city of Milwaukee began when the Defund the Police movement started, and were worsened by the opening of the southern border during the Biden-Harris administration.

"We all want to live in safe communities. We all want to have our children go to safe schools," Hovde said in a speech at the Milwaukee Police Headquarters. "But sadly today, that is not happening here in Milwaukee. In fact one of the reasons I ended up running for the U.S. Senate is our domestic security, and that started getting eroded four years ago with the Defund the Police movement, probably one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard."

"And that has only been compounded by the fact that we've opened our southern border and the consequences that have flowed from that with issues like the flooding of our streets with fentanyl," Hovde said. "Sadly, Milwaukee today, has one of the highest crime rates of any city in America. In fact, car jackings are up about 28% this year over last year, and sex trafficking is up about 25% - Milwaukee is one of the epicenters for sex trafficking and human trafficking in the country. Which is astounding."

The Milwaukee Police Association (MPA) endorsed Wisconsin entrepreneur Eric Hovde for the U.S. Senate on October 11. The announcement was made by MPA President Alexander Ayala at the association's headquarters in Milwaukee.

Wisconsin State Sen. Rob Hutton also addressed the crime rates in Milwaukee in a recent op-ed.

“Public policy isn’t a magic fix for all of these problems. We know there are many contributing factors behind these dire statistics, but lawmakers can and should do all we can to support the effort to keep families, neighborhoods, and schools safe."
