The Milwaukee VA Medical Center will host a Veterans Creative Arts Showcase from August 12 to 14. The event will feature visual arts, creative writing, and performing arts by veterans who receive care at the facility. Visual arts and creative writing entries will be exhibited in a gallery format on August 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on August 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Performing arts, including dance, drama, and music, will be staged on August 14 from 1 to 3 p.m.
All entries in the showcase will be judged, with top winners advancing for consideration at the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.
The exhibition is located in Room 3435 (third-floor recreation hall) of the Milwaukee VA Medical Center at 5000 W. National Ave., Milwaukee.
According to event organizers, "This event is open to all Veterans who receive VA care. For many, it is part of their therapy to heal from post-traumatic stress and other health issues." The showcase highlights how art therapy can play a role in veterans' recovery processes.
Veteran artists and Milwaukee VA art and music therapists will be available during the event to discuss the therapeutic benefits of creative arts with attendees and media representatives.
