The Milwaukee women's basketball team secured a significant victory against the Green Bay Phoenix, closing their regular season with a 65-61 win. The match took place at the Kress Center on Saturday afternoon. Kamy Peppler led Milwaukee with 25 points, while Angie Cera contributed 17 points.
With this win, Milwaukee clinched the fifth seed in the upcoming Barbasol Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship. The loss for Green Bay dropped them from the top position to the second seed.
Milwaukee trailed by up to 14 points in the second quarter but turned things around with a decisive 16-0 run, gaining a lead they maintained until the end. "I couldn't be prouder of our team right now," said Kyle Rechlicz after the game. He highlighted his team's resilience and belief as key factors in their comeback.
Peppler's performance was instrumental, scoring most of her points early on and shifting to a playmaker role later in the game. "Kamy [Peppler] was so unselfish," Rechlicz added. Cera also played a crucial role in securing victory by scoring nine critical points in the fourth quarter.
Milwaukee finished strong from both field goals and free throws, limiting Green Bay's opportunities at the line. Jada Donaldson contributed eight points and three assists, while Kendall Nead and Jorey Buwalda supported with key plays.
Green Bay had early control of the game but couldn't maintain their lead through Milwaukee's strategic play adjustments. Jenna Guyer led Green Bay with 14 points off the bench.
Milwaukee ends its regular season preparing for their next challenge against Wright State in the tournament's quarterfinals at Nutter Center.
