Nadiia Konieva and Sara Simonova, members of the Milwaukee women's tennis team, have been selected for the Horizon League Valeo All-Academic Team. This recognition marks the first time both athletes have received this honor and continues a three-year streak of Milwaukee players being named to the team.
Konieva, a psychology major with a GPA of 3.957, leads her team in singles victories with a 15-8 record, primarily at the No. 2 singles position. Her doubles performance stands at 16-7, including an unbeaten 4-0 in Horizon League matches at No. 1 doubles this spring. Last season, she was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete and earned First Team All-Horizon League honors, concluding her freshman year as the Horizon League Freshman of the Year.
Simonova is pursuing political science and holds a GPA of 3.98. She has achieved 18 victories this season across singles and doubles play. Last year, she was also recognized as an ITA Scholar Athlete with eight singles wins and fourteen doubles wins during her freshman year.
The Valeo Horizon League Women's Tennis All-Academic Team for 2024 includes players from various institutions: Katarina Duckic from Chicago State; Ella Franz and Sima Heren from Cleveland State; Nadiia Konieva and Sara Simonova from Milwaukee; and Lili Minich from Youngstown State.
Additionally, Ashlee Fisk from Northern Kentucky and Eliska Masarikova from Youngstown State received honorable mentions.
The Horizon League's Academic All-League Teams recognize student-athletes in each of its championship sports who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher on a 4.00 scale, have completed at least one academic year at their institution with sufficient credit hours, and participate in at least half of their team's contests.
