The Milwaukee women's track and field team claimed victory at the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championship, marking their eighth win in the program's history. The team accumulated 193.5 points, achieving a sweep of both indoor and outdoor championships this year.
Head coach Andrew Basler expressed pride in his team's dedication, stating, "I am extremely proud of our women for not getting complacent after the indoor title and working even harder to get the outdoor crown." He emphasized that this success is a result of years of hard work by athletes, staff, and alumni.
Basler was honored as the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Women's Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year following the team's triumph.
Athlete Natalie Block excelled in her events, breaking records in both the 400m hurdles and 100m hurdles. She set a new championship record with her performance in each event. Block's achievements earned her recognition as the conference's Outstanding Runner of the Meet.
In addition to Block's successes, Anelise Egge secured first place in the 1500m race and second place in the 800m. The relay teams also performed well, with notable placements including a second-place finish by Fare, Malone, Roloff, and Laundrie in the 4x100m relay.
Olivia Busch led a group of Panthers who scored in triple jump events. Other noteworthy performances included Olivia VanZeeland's third-place finish in high jump and Katie Burns' third-place finish in the 400m race.
Reflecting on these accomplishments, Basler stated: "It's been a long but successful year for our program." He acknowledged his assistant coaches and support staff for their efforts behind-the-scenes.
Looking ahead, some team members will compete at an upcoming last chance opportunity before turning their focus to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds scheduled from May 22-25 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
