Milwaukee cross country teams ready for Horizon League Championship

The Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the 2023 Horizon League Cross Country Championship meet this Saturday. The event, hosted by Wright State, will take place at Fairborn Community Park in Fairborn, Ohio. The men's 8K race is scheduled for 10 AM CT, followed by the women's 6K race at 11 AM CT.

Last year, the Milwaukee men's team finished in fifth place. Notable performances came from Ian Nadolski (22nd), Aidan Sodemann (29th), and Bryce Tome (42nd). On the women's side, Milwaukee secured their third consecutive Horizon League Championship title and fourth in five years with significant contributions from Cailin Kinas (4th), Anelise Egge (10th), and Brittany Helm (16th).

Following the league championship meet, both teams will prepare for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on November 10th in Madison, Wisconsin.

In their last outing at the Bradley Pink Classic, Bryce Tome led the Milwaukee men with a career-best time of 25:08.7, finishing 52nd out of 242 runners. Aidan Sodemann followed with a time of 25:53.9 in 121st place. Lucas Picco and Carter Eckhoff also posted strong performances. In another race category, freshman Aidan Sosnowski achieved a personal best time of 26:40.1.

For the women at the same event, Anelise Egge recorded a new career-best time of 22:03.2 to lead her team, placing 46th out of 258 runners. Cailin Kinas was next for Milwaukee with a time of 22:29.8 in 81st place. Rachel Helm achieved a season-best time while Anna Gallagher and Brittany Helm also contributed to their team's efforts.

Milwaukee's performance as a team saw them finish in different standings; the men placed 22nd with a score of 564 while the women finished in 25th position scoring 552 points.
