The Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams are preparing to compete at the Blugold Invitational in Colfax, Wisconsin. The event, hosted by Eau Claire, will take place at the Whitetail Golf Course with the women's 6K and men's 8K races scheduled for tomorrow.
Following open races for men and women at 3:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., the varsity competitions will commence at 4:30 p.m. for men and 5:15 p.m. for women. Live results will be accessible during the event.
In their last outing, the Milwaukee men's team secured sixth place out of ten teams at the Pioneer Gender Equity Invite held in Platteville. Head coach Andrew Basler commented on individual performances rather than team success, stating, "Today's race was more about individual opportunity than team success." Freshmen Lucas Picco and Aidan Sosnowski led their team with career-best times of 26:25.2 and 26:46.9 respectively.
Associate head coach Jake Reilly expressed optimism about the progress made by younger athletes, saying, "It was a great step in the right direction for the young guys."
On the women's side, Aubrey Anderson led Milwaukee's contingent at Platteville despite not qualifying as a full team due to only three runners participating. Anderson finished in 13th place with a time of 24:28.0 in her race.
Jake Reilly noted positive outcomes from their performance, commenting on good results and attitudes as they prepare for upcoming conference championships.
Anderson's confident run was acknowledged by head coach Andrew Basler who stated, "(Anderson) ran extremely confident today."
Recognition followed these performances as Lucas Picco received Male Runner and Freshman of the Week honors from Horizon League while Aubrey Anderson was named Female Runner of the Week. Grace Kline earned recognition as Female Freshman of the Week after finishing with a time that marked her second-best career result.
