Milwaukee's men's cross country team secured three top-six finishes at the Phoenix Open, held in Green Bay. The Panthers achieved a team score of 61, placing them third among seven teams, behind Oshkosh with 58 and Michigan Tech with 40.
Aidan Sodemann led Milwaukee with a career-best time of 25:13.9, earning third place. Cullen Boyle and Bryce Tome followed closely in fifth and sixth places, clocking times of 25:22.4 and 25:25.8 respectively.
"I thought our athletes ran really well; much better than they did in this same meet last year," stated Head Coach Andrew Basler. He highlighted Boyle's performance along with Carter Eckhoff and Sam Schreiber as promising for the program's future.
Carter Eckhoff was another notable performer for Milwaukee, finishing 24th with a time of 26:19.3.
"The men did an outstanding job," commented Assistant Coach Jake Reilly. "I think outside of our fifth-year seniors, almost everyone finished with a lifetime best."
The Panthers averaged a time of 25:49, surpassing fourth-place Green Bay by 19 seconds.
Milwaukee will compete next at the John McNichols Invite hosted by Indiana State on September 16 at 8:00 AM.
