Asher Ozuzu and Daniel Ibarra, members of the Milwaukee men's soccer team, have been honored as the Horizon League Under Armour Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office this afternoon.
This recognition marks the first league honor for both players in their Milwaukee careers. It is also the second and third time the team has received such accolades this fall, with Alejandro Martinez being previously recognized on August 26. This occasion represents the first instance since October 2021 that the team has secured both player of the week honors simultaneously.
Ozuzu played a crucial role in helping his team achieve a successful 2-0 record against challenging opponents. He scored a goal in Milwaukee's 2-1 victory over Drake on Tuesday, ending Drake's six-game unbeaten streak. Drake was ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Regional Poll at that time. On Saturday, Ozuzu delivered a header to give Milwaukee a lead in their 4-1 win over Oakland. He concluded his week with three goals, including one that sealed Oakland's defeat and ended their five-game unbeaten streak.
Ibarra contributed to a perfect week with two victories, maintaining an impressive save percentage of .857 (12 saves out of 14 shots on goal). Against Drake, he recorded four saves to help end their unbeaten run. On Saturday, he equaled his career high by making eight saves against Oakland, ending their unbeaten streak as well. Throughout these matches, Ibarra faced 37 shots and maintained a goals-against average of just 1.00. Additionally, he achieved his second goalkeeper assist of the season against Oakland with a long goal kick that led to a game-winning goal—the first time since 1986 that a Panther goalie has had two assists in one season.
