Milwaukee's men's basketball team faced a challenging match against UCF, narrowly missing an upset with an 84-76 loss at Addition Financial Arena. The game was tightly contested, featuring seven ties and lead changes, with the Panthers (5-3) fighting until the end against the Knights (5-2). UCF secured their victory by converting five out of six free throws in the final 84 seconds.
Head coach Bart Lundy praised his team's effort, stating, "I thought we came out with the right mentality, the right togetherness. We were connected in every way. They were fighting together and Panther fans should be proud of this team."
Jamichael Stillwell stood out for Milwaukee, achieving his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kentrell Pullian led the offense with 15 points and eight rebounds. Themus Fulks contributed significantly with 13 points, including key three-pointers that tied the game late. AJ McKee added 12 points and four rebounds.
Lundy reflected on their performance: "I think we are trending in the right direction, but I don't want to be too happy about not making the plays we needed to win the game." He emphasized that while effort is crucial, making decisive plays is necessary for victory.
Darius Johnson was instrumental for UCF, scoring a game-high 28 points and sinking eight three-pointers from ten attempts. Lundy acknowledged Johnson's performance: "They had a career night from one of their best players – and we need to be able to guard other team's best players."
Despite trailing by no more than four points in the second half, Milwaukee kept close. Fulks' back-to-back three-pointers tied it at 63-63 with less than nine minutes left. However, Johnson's continued scoring extended UCF's lead again.
Pullian managed a significant push before halftime with a three-pointer narrowing Milwaukee's deficit to 43-40. Throughout the game, Milwaukee showed strength in rebounding and points in the paint but couldn't overcome UCF's offensive pressure.
The Panthers will continue their road games over Thanksgiving as they prepare to face Southern Miss on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
