Milwaukee swimmers head to US Open Championships

The Milwaukee swimming and diving team is sending seven athletes to compete in the US Open Championships, scheduled from December 4-7 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Panthers representing the team include Caleb Carlisle, Maddi Hayashi, Charlie House, Jay Jensen, Andrew Jones, Gabrielle LePine, and Ben Lorenz.

The event will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. After relay events on Wednesday, each day will begin with preliminaries at 8:00 a.m. Central Time and finals at 5:00 p.m. Viewers can stream the finals sessions via Peacock.

Jay Jensen will be the first Panther to compete on Thursday in the 500 freestyle and again on Friday in the 400 individual medley. Jensen recorded a time of 3:55.75 in the medley during the House of Champions meet on November 22 and achieved his best 500 freestyle time of 4:46.10 on November 1 at UIC.

Ben Lorenz and Charlie House are set to participate in Thursday's men's 50 freestyle event. Lorenz has secured top positions three times this season with his best time being 20.59 at the House of Champions Meet on November 21. House holds the fastest time among Panthers this season with a record of 20.27 at the same meet.

Gabrielle LePine will compete in Friday's women's 100 breaststroke event, which she has consistently won throughout this season; her top performance was timed at 1:01.28 during the House of Champions Meet on November 22. On the men's side, Andrew Jones recorded his best swim of this season with a time of 55.64 also on November 22.

Caleb Carlisle is set for both the men's 100 (48.14) and 200 (1:47.34) butterfly events after setting school records recently at the House of Champions meet held from November 21-23. Maddi Hayashi will participate in Friday's women's side of the same event; she has claimed first-place finishes three times this season with her personal best being a time of 55.34 achieved on November 21.

The Panthers' next team appearance is scheduled for January when they host Green Bay on Saturday, January 25.
