Milwaukee and Marquette faced off in their city rivalry at the Al McGuire Center on Sunday, with Marquette winning 69-51. The game marked the renewal of the competition after a year-long break.

Anna Lutz led Milwaukee with 10 points, while Izzy Pugh contributed eight points. Kacee Baumhower and Jada Donaldson each added five points, with Donaldson leading in assists for the Panthers.

"The atmosphere with our team was extremely different today," said Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz. "We competed and were doing a lot of things well; diving for loose balls, being physical in the post, rotating on defense … if we show up in practice and in games like our team did today, we're going to turn this around and start winning. I absolutely loved our energy and effort today."

Milwaukee made 18 field goals, including seven three-pointers. In contrast, Marquette scored 27 field goals from 59 attempts, including five three-pointers. Lee Volker was a standout for Marquette with 21 points from eight field goals. Skylar Forbes added 18 points and led Marquette with seven rebounds.

Marquette dominated the rebounding contest by a margin of 38-27 and capitalized on turnovers, scoring 21 points off Milwaukee's 20 turnovers. They also outscored Milwaukee in the paint by a significant margin.

The first quarter saw high offensive activity with both teams combining for 46 points. Milwaukee got strong contributions from Lutz who scored eight points during this period.

In the second quarter, Justina Hernandez briefly gave Milwaukee a lead with a corner three-pointer before Marquette regained control to lead by ten at halftime.

Marquette maintained its advantage throughout the second half despite Milwaukee's early efforts to close the gap. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to as much as 21 points before Hallie Majoros hit a late three-pointer for Milwaukee to finalize the scoreline.

Milwaukee will conclude its non-conference schedule next Sunday against Central Michigan at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant.
