Milwaukee men's track and field team participated in the Mastodon Invitational at Purdue Fort Wayne, concluding the heptathlon on Saturday. Liam Richards and Nick O'Halloran represented the team in the final three events of the competition.
Richards accumulated 4,269 points over the weekend, securing first place by winning six out of seven events. "Day two of the heptathlon was great for us, they competed well all weekend and gained great experience," said head coach Andrew Basler.
Despite not completing the 60m hurdles, Richards excelled in the pole vault event by clearing 4.30 meters, which helped him regain his leading position. "The pole vault was a highlight for Liam and Nick," Basler added. "Both of them were shorter on their approaches and were able to progress with their technique."
In the 1000m run, Richards finished with a time of 3:02.15, further solidifying his lead in the heptathlon standings.
O'Halloran completed his first collegiate heptathlon in third place with a total of 2,844 points. His performance included an 11.38-second finish in the 60m hurdles, a clearance of 3.10 meters in the pole vault, and a time of 3:54.26 in the 1000m run.
The Panthers are set to host their first home meet at the Tierney Classic on January 25 at Klotsche Center.
