The Milwaukee track and field teams participated in the second day of the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame. Anelise Egge set a new school indoor record in the mile run with a time of 4:47.25, finishing 12th out of 51 competitors.
Head coach Andrew Basler praised the middle-distance group, highlighting Egge's performance. "Obviously Anelise breaking the school record was a high point as she picked right up where she left off at the end of the cross country season," Basler said.
Basler also commended Lucas Picco and Cailin Kinas for their performances. Picco achieved a career-best time of 1:53.32 in the 800m, while Kinas recorded a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:02.48.
In other events, Iyimi Fagbamiye finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.05, tying for fifth place on Milwaukee's all-time leaderboard. Anna Szepieniec placed sixth with a time of 8.74 in the women's hurdles.
Jaelyn Reeves-Lile secured third place in the men's 60m dash at 6.80 seconds, and Dominique Thomas finished fifth for the women at 7.64 seconds.
Basler expressed satisfaction with his team's overall performance on the track, stating, "We were pretty solid on the track today."
Hailey Soriaga improved her personal best in pole vault by clearing 3.76 meters, enhancing her position on Milwaukee's all-time list.
Looking ahead to next week, Basler noted that "it will be good to be able to feed off that energy" as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
The Panthers' next event is scheduled for Saturday, February 8th at La Crosse's Mark Guthrie Legacy Invite at Hetzel Fieldhouse.
