Ben Lorenz and Brielle Laube from the Milwaukee swimming & diving team have been recognized as Horizon League Swimmers of the Week, according to an announcement made by the league on Wednesday.
Lorenz achieved this recognition following his performance at the Wisconsin First Chance Meet on Friday, where he set a new school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.97 seconds. This marks the first instance of a Panther swimmer breaking the 20-second barrier in this event.
In women's swimming, Laube was honored after securing victory in the 100 butterfly on Saturday with a time of 57.82 seconds. She also contributed to her team's success in the 400 freestyle relay, which finished first with a time of 3:37.39. Additionally, Laube placed sixth in the 50 freestyle (23.91) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (52.89).
This accolade is a career-first for both Lorenz and Laube, bringing Milwaukee's total to nine League Athlete of the Week awards this season.
The Panthers are now preparing for the Horizon League Championships scheduled from February 19-22 at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The events will commence on February 19 at noon Central Time, with subsequent days starting at 9:00 a.m. Central Time. All events will be streamed live on ESPN+.
