The Milwaukee women's track and field team participated in the Big Meet Friday at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan. Anelise Egge was a standout performer, breaking a 41-year-old school record in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:33.27. The previous record was set by Linda Marquardt in 1983 with a time of 9:40.12.
"Anelise absolutely put on a show breaking a 41-year school record," said head coach Andrew Basler. "She stayed patient and then made a great push during the last 400 meters."
Katie Burns also made significant strides, moving up to fourth on the school's indoor 400-meter dash leaderboard with her time of 50.06.
"Katie had an amazing 400 performance," Basler continued. "She has continued to show her dominance in that race this season."
Burns contributed to the Panthers' relay team achieving the third-best time in school history for the 4x400 relay at 3:50.68, alongside Victoria Evtimov, Leah Handshoe, and Taylor Thimmesch.
Victoria Evtimov also delivered a top-10 performance in program history by finishing the 200-meter dash in 25.10 seconds, placing her seventh on the all-time list.
In another event, Cailin Kinas led Milwaukee's mile run efforts with a fourth-place finish out of 51 runners with a time of 4:59.20.
Anna Szepieniec advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles after recording an initial time of 8.72 seconds and concluded eighth overall with an effort of 8.79 seconds.
"We really performed well on the big track today," concluded Basler. "I really saw a lot of effort, grit and support. This meet was exactly what we needed two weeks out from the conference championship meet."
Milwaukee will host its final home meet next week on February 22 for the Panther Tune-Up at Klotsche Center before heading to Fort Wayne, Indiana for the Horizon League Indoor Championships from March 1-2.
