Milwaukee's swimming and diving teams had a successful day at the Horizon League Championships, held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The highlight of the second day was the women's 200 freestyle relay victory.
The relay team, consisting of Gabrielle LePine, Carly Plate, Christiana Brooks, and Janelle Schulz, secured the team's first conference title with a time of 1:31.63. This performance broke the previous program record set in 2016.
On the men's side, Charlie House, Caleb Carlisle, Jackson Ahrens, and Ben Lorenz improved their earlier season record with a time of 1:19.62. This effort earned them second place on the podium.
Gunnar Seversen set a new school record during the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:25.64 and then further improved it to 4:25.18 in the final round to finish fourth.
Janelle Schulz also found success individually by finishing third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.17. She was closely followed by teammates Gabrielle LePine (fourth) and Christiana Brooks (seventh).
In men's events, Ben Lorenz reached fifth place in his final after entering as an underdog with a time of 20.00.
Erika Thomas led Milwaukee in the women's 200 individual medley with her fourth-place finish at 2:04.33. Natalie DiProspero finished fifth and Johanna Edgren seventh in this event.
Julie Rebek represented Milwaukee on the one-meter diving board finals where she finished seventh with a score of 246.70.
After two days of competition, Milwaukee women rank second overall with 240 points behind Oakland who leads with 284 points while Milwaukee men are third with 162 points.
Day three will feature preliminaries for several swimming events starting at 9:00 a.m., men's one-meter dive prelims at noon, followed by all event finals at 4:30 p.m., which will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
