The Milwaukee Panthers secured a significant victory over Youngstown State with an 84-74 win in a game broadcast on ESPNU. The Panthers' triumph was driven by Themus Fulks, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, alongside AJ McKee's contribution of 20 points. The match took place at the Beeghly Center and was part of the Horizon League.
Head coach Bart Lundy reflected on the challenging atmosphere: "It was fun but very, very challenging night. It was a packed house and it feels like they are on top of you. A lot of boisterous fans for a national TV game and it was a gut-check for our guys."
A pivotal moment came early in the second half when Milwaukee went on a substantial 24-6 run, turning a one-point deficit into a commanding lead. Despite Youngstown State's efforts to close the gap, the Panthers maintained their advantage by successfully converting free throws in the final moments.
"We kept talking about staying calm, use the clock, run something good, and don't turn it over," Lundy said. "We went 7-of-8 and Jamichael got the rebound on the one that we missed."
Fulks delivered his third double-double in recent games, while McKee's performance included hitting all four three-point attempts he took during the first half. Kentrell Pullian also contributed with 11 points, and Jamichael Stillwell led in rebounds with 11.
For Youngstown State, Juwan Maxey stood out with a career-high of 29 points. The Penguins briefly held an eight-point lead before Milwaukee regained control.
The Panthers shot effectively throughout the game, finishing at 48.3 percent from the floor overall and an impressive 84 percent from free throws. They also dominated rebounding with a total of 35 against Youngstown State's 22.
Next up for Milwaukee is another road game against Robert Morris as they continue their pursuit in the Horizon League standings.
