Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley have called for an investigation into potential criminal leaks of sensitive information to the media. The request was made in a letter addressed to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel. The senators are concerned about possible breaches of FBI information sharing policies by former Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Timothy Thibault, and his associates.

The letter cites legally protected whistleblower disclosures indicating that Thibault shared sensitive investigative information from his FBI email account with a private citizen he was romantically involved with. "The FBI repeatedly lectures Congress, without any legitimate basis, that it can’t share information with Congress because the matter is an ongoing investigation," the senators stated.

Johnson and Grassley also pointed to news reports released shortly before the November 2024 election that contained potentially "classified U.S. intelligence." They argue this exemplifies how DOJ and FBI officials might be sharing non-public information while ignoring congressional requests.

Additionally, they highlighted an award given to Special Agent Walter Giardina for his work on the Mueller and Jack Smith investigations related to Trump.

"The full text of the letter and legally protected whistleblower disclosures can be found here," concludes the press release.
