Purdue Fort Wayne secured a decisive victory over the Milwaukee women's basketball team with an 82-46 win on Thursday evening. The Mastodons dominated by making 14 three-pointers, maintaining a strong shooting performance throughout the game.
Lauren Ross and Audra Emmerson each contributed 12 points for Purdue Fort Wayne, supported by Amellia Bromenschenkel with 11 points and Renna Schwieterman with 10. For Milwaukee, Izzy Pugh led the team off the bench with nine points. Both Pugh and Jorey Buwalda recorded five rebounds each, while Kamy Peppler achieved a game-high of three assists.
Purdue Fort Wayne's effective shooting was evident as they hit 51.8 percent from the field and an impressive 51.9 percent from beyond the arc. In contrast, Milwaukee managed to shoot only 32.7 percent overall and just 25 percent from three-point range.
"They're playing well right now," remarked Milwaukee's head coach Kyle Rechlicz regarding Purdue Fort Wayne's performance. "We knew they were hot coming in after 15 threes at Detroit on Sunday. They're playing some good basketball right now, and to compete with them, you can't be turning the basketball over."
Milwaukee struggled with turnovers throughout the match, giving up possession 23 times which resulted in Purdue Fort Wayne scoring 31 points off those turnovers. The Mastodons also outscored Milwaukee in the paint by recording 30 points compared to Milwaukee's 16.
The game started with Purdue Fort Wayne establishing an early lead of 22-5 after the first quarter and maintaining control throughout, leading by as much as 66-29 after three quarters before Milwaukee won the final quarter by a narrow margin of one point at a score of 17-16.
Additional contributions for Milwaukee came from Peppler who scored six points along with Buwalda, Kacee Baumhower, Anna Lutz, and Grace Lomen who each added five points.
With this loss concluding their regular season games, Milwaukee will now wait to learn their opponent for their upcoming road game in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship First Round scheduled for Tuesday, March 4th.
