The Milwaukee women's tennis team secured a commanding 7-0 victory over Whitewater at Lake Geneva Tennis on Sunday. This win marked another success for the Panthers, who now hold a 6-6 record. The Whitewater Warhawks, known for their strong performance in NCAA Division III and winners of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title for the past 18 years, were unable to overcome Milwaukee's dominance.
Head coach Mark Goldin commented on the team's resilience despite facing injuries: "We had a few members of the team out today with injury, but we kept that 'next-up' mentality and stayed ready and played tough." He praised Giorgia Cavestro for her first singles victory of the season and noted strong performances from Elisa Rubio and Emilia Durska in both singles and doubles matches.
The doubles competition concluded swiftly, with victories from Emilia Durska and Giorgia Cavestro at No. 2, as well as Elisa Rubio and Sara Simonova at No. 3, securing the doubles point for Milwaukee.
In singles play, Laure Razet opened with a decisive win over Molly Asfeld at No. 2. Elisa Rubio followed with another solid performance against Alex Repplier at No. 4. Honoka Yamashita contributed by defeating Sarah Ferguson at No. 5, while Nikola Nikolajeva added to the score by overcoming Gracie Ha in straight sets.
Emilia Durska faced a challenging first set against Abigail Weaver but prevailed after a tiebreaker to win her match. Giorgia Cavestro rounded off the day with an intense match against Crystina Lee, ultimately winning in three sets.
Looking ahead, Milwaukee will host Northern Iowa next Saturday at 11:30 a.m., aiming to build on their current momentum.
