Milwaukee's women's track and field team concluded an impressive debut weekend of outdoor competition, participating in both the Raleigh Relays and the Redbird Challenge. The team delivered strong performances, including a victory for Cailin Kinas in the 3000m steeplechase at the Redbird Challenge.
Kinas emerged victorious in her event, securing the title with a time of 11:10.35. Sara Jochims followed her teammate, placing second with a time of 11:34.81, marking the ninth-best time in the program's history.
Overall, the Milwaukee team achieved fourth place among 14 teams, accumulating 86 points. Head coach Andrew Basler noted, "Despite some wet and cooler conditions, we got a lot of strong performances. Victoria was able to have two great races in the 100m and 200m dashes."
Victoria Evtimov contributed with a third-place finish in the 200m dash, clocking in at 24.92 seconds. She also secured fourth place in the 100m dash with a time of 12.17 seconds. Meanwhile, Angelica Refinski qualified for the finals in the 100m dash, finishing eighth.
In the field events, Mercedes Herrera placed third in the discus with a toss of 40.69m. Leah Handshoe placed third in the 400m hurdles, with a time of 1:05.59. Hallie Hoger secured third place in the 5000m run at 18:31.25, followed closely by Anna Gallagher in fourth.
Milwaukee's relay teams also performed well, with the 4x400 team, consisting of Alexandria Simmons, Taylor Thimmesch, Leah Handshoe, and Brooke Crosby, finishing second. The 4x100 relay team, composed of Lilly Wepking, Kalea Weyenberg, Isabel Roloff, and Angelica Refinski, earned third place.
At the Raleigh Relays, Anna Szepieniec ranked ninth in the long jump with a leap of 5.70m, while teammate Morgan Pilate reached 5.39m. Coach Basler commented, "Day two was another strong day for the group in Raleigh. Anna made the finals in a tough long jump field to produce a good opening mark."
Katie Burns completed the 200m dash with a time of 25.04 seconds.
Looking ahead, Milwaukee will compete at the Ashton May Invite on April 5.
