Milwaukee swim team shines in academics, places eight on All-District Team

Eight athletes from the Milwaukee swimming and diving teams have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. The organization highlighted both men's and women's teams for their academic achievements.

On the women's team, Mara Freeman, Therese Missiaen, and Janelle Schulz made the list for the second consecutive year. Julie Rebek received the honor for the third straight year. Additionally, Freeman, Missiaen, and Schulz were also members of the Horizon League All-Academic Team.

The men's team included Jackson Ahrens, Jay Jensen, Andrew Jones, and Ben Lorenz. All four were recognized with All-Academic honors from the Horizon League in March.

Freeman, a junior majoring in accounting, holds a perfect 4.00 GPA. She also finished second in the 100 and 200 backstrokes at the Horizon League Championships and contributed to a conference championship in the 400 medley relay.

Schulz, a senior biomedical engineering major with a 3.90 GPA, placed in the top three for the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles at the league championships. She was also part of the winning 400 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Rebek, a senior in journalism, advertising, and media studies, maintains a GPA of 3.86. She qualified for the "A" finals in the one-meter dive, securing seventh place at the championships.

Missiaen, a kinesiology major with a 3.96 GPA, finished 13th in the one-meter dive at the league event.

Lorenz was named to the Academic All-District Team for the second year. The physics major with a 3.73 GPA finished fifth in the 50 freestyle at the league championships.

Jones, a sophomore psychology student with a 3.93 GPA, achieved sixth place in the 100 breaststroke at the league championships.

Jensen, currently pursuing a master’s in geographic information systems with a 3.86 GPA, concluded his final season with the team by finishing third in the 400 individual medley.

Ahrens, a senior marketing student, has a 3.81 GPA. He helped set new school records in the 200 and 800 freestyle relay teams at the championships.
