The Milwaukee women's tennis team faced off against DePaul in Chicago on Friday afternoon, suffering a 4-0 defeat at XS Tennis Village. Milwaukee, with a record of 6-14, continues aiming to regain full health, while DePaul, now with a 10-10 record, improved their home performance to 5-2 with the victory.
Head coach Mark Goldin expressed that, despite ongoing injuries, the team executed a commendable effort. "We are still battling injuries but the team fought hard," Goldin stated. He highlighted the importance of upcoming conference matches: "We have some big conference matches coming up so we will need to be ready. We are hoping to get everyone healthy, but either way, we will have the 'next up'-mentality and compete hard."
Milwaukee continues their Chicago stay to compete against Chicago State on Saturday, with the match scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
In singles matches, noteworthy contests included Sasha Stula's (DePaul) victory over Laure Razet of Milwaukee, who had to retire, and Eva Goncharov's win against Elisa Rubio with scores of 6-2, 6-0. Other singles matches went unfinished as the outcome was already decided in DePaul's favor.
In doubles, DePaul’s pairing of Goncharov and Hannah Smith secured a 6-2 win against Milwaukee's Nadiia Konieva and Sara Simonova, while Eleanor Nobbs and Roberta Sechi defeated Laure Razet and Elisa Rubio 6-1.
