Milwaukee track and field teams ready for upcoming meets

The Milwaukee track and field teams are preparing for two upcoming meets this week. Events will begin with the Drake Alternative on Thursday and the Fighting Illini Twilight on Saturday.

The Drake Alternative will be hosted by UW-Whitewater at Rex Foster Track Complex in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The meet commences with field events at 11:00 a.m., followed by track events starting at 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the Fighting Illini Twilight will take place at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Illinois, starting with track and field competitions at 1:00 p.m.

In recent performances, the women's team showed commendable results at the Gibson Invitational. Highlighting these was Olivia VanZeeland's achievement in the high jump, where she cleared 1.80m. Natalie Block also returned to the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.68, while Cailin Kinas recorded a time of 4:37.57 in the 1500m run. Katie Burns contributed significantly with a third-place finish in the 400m dash.

The men's team had notable results at the Gibson Invitational. Divine Aniamaka won the triple jump with a leap of 15.11m. Josh Cygan advanced to seventh on the school's all-time list in discus throw. Caden Thomas improved his high jump record by clearing 2.03m. Tony Campbell placed third in the long jump, and Iyimi Fagbamiye secured fourth place in the 110m hurdles.

Looking forward, Milwaukee is set to participate in two more meets next weekend: the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky, and the Badger Challenge in Madison, Wisconsin. These events precede the Horizon League Championships scheduled for May 9-11 in Youngstown, Ohio.
